Honey & Dear bio picture

"Who is the Honey and who is the Dear?"

That is the question we get most asked by our couples. And after years of joking around about who is who in the Honey and Dear family...we have realized the answer is: you. Every wedding we film, every couple we choose to start a relationship with, we fit with because we look at them and we see a Honey and a Dear.

The name originally came from a friend (albeit a branding savvy friend) who was picturing our couples, old and happy, thinking back on their full and wonderful lives together, a lifetime of "oh honey..." and "yes dear".

What started as a husband and wife team of filmmakers is now a small and feisty family of folks passionate about film. We don't do many weddings. We don't have multiple teams or spend the weekends running from one wedding to another. When we do choose to film weddings, we choose people who get us. People choose us because we get them. We don't ask for much: a little trust, a sense of humour, and a bit of your time.

And when your old and grey and your honey asks if you want to re-watch your wedding video, you say "yes dear".

The Wedding Co Show has been amazing so far!  We have met some amazing couples so far and we’re looking forward to filming some great weddings in 2011 and 2012!  If you dropped by this weekend and spoke to us – feel free to Contact UsHoney And Dear Wedding Films We’ll have a bit more of a thorough wrap up later.

    Kristina - Hey Guys,

It was great meeting you at the wedding show, talking with you both was definitely Mark and my favourite part of the show.

I have been on your site all morning looking at videos and I went to show my mom (who has been trying to convince us to have a video done because her biggest regret is not having a video of hers) and she had already seen all of your videos before. She had looked them up and was already inlove with your work.

Hope the rest of the show is great for you guys!

admin - Thanks so much Kristina! It was great to meet you too!

Emily and I are very excited to announce a trip that we’ve been planning now for a few months.  We will be headed to the west coast of Australia for about 5 weeks – leaving Jan 30 and returning early March.  While we’re away, we’ll be filming a wedding of a couple of our best friends – Dave Biesse & Charlotte Leonard.  Their wedding is going to be absolute perfection and we’re so excited to be joined by our new friends Ewan and Brianna Phelan of LastFortyPercent who will be photographing Dave & Charlotte’s big day. We’re also excited to have tonnes of our friends from Toronto coming to help make the wedding perfect including our buddy Lori (The Caketress) Hutchinson.

The other piece of news is that we’ll be filming a wedding in Singapore on the same trip.  We are so excited to see this beautiful city in person.  People say its one of the most beautiful cities in the world.  Stay tuned for a Same Day Edit or two!

We will be at the Wedding Co Show on January 14-16th as well as the Estates of Sunnybrook open-house on January 22.  Both events will be amazing – come meet Emily and I and talk to us about your wedding plans!

As we write this note, it’s the day after boxing day and we’re going to be taking the week to re-charge and get ready for an amazing 2011.  We have 14 amazing couples lined up and we are looking for about 5-10 more couples to share their wedding with in 2011.  If you are one of those couples – get in touch with us as we would love to connect with you!

Happy New Year!

Chantal Heide - Love wedding photos! As a dating coach, it makes me so happy to see happy couples on their big day!

A few months before we got married I was speaking to one of my (married) bridesmaids while running through the oh so long lists of “done’s” and “to do’s” and I asked her if she had any regrets when her wedding was all said and done. She said their day was absolute perfection and her only regret was not having proper documentation of the day (as we all know how quickly the big day flies by). I immediately began scouring the internet for local videographers and after a few hours of searching (and hating every cheesy, home made style video on there) I came across a site that literally took my breath away. Honey & Dear had posted some “teasers” of wedding videos they had completed recently and they really were unlike anything else I had ever seen. The fact that complete stranger’s wedding videos could bring tears to my eye really made me realize how powerful these films are.

We were thrilled when we found out Andrew and Emily were available for our date and really and truly only have great things to say about our experiences with them. Before the wedding day we met with them to shoot a “Love Story” video, and were extremely impressed at how well these guys were able to put together our story having only met us a few times. The only way to describe it is to say that it was so “us”. It’s amazing the feeling you get when you see a reflection of yourselves in a way you’ve never seen before. I always knew that we were happy and that we belonged together, but seeing our relationship through someone else’s eyes (or camera lens) really allowed us to appreciate how lucky we are to have found eachother and how special our relationship really is.

On our wedding day Andrew and Emily were extremely professional, worked extraordinarily well with our photographer and other vendors, were flexible with times and blended in so well with the rest of our guests that you hardly would have noticed them (save the cameras they toted around all day :). When our band finished their first set Andrew and Emily set up a huge screen on the dance floor and showed both our “Love Story” video and our “Same Day Edit”. Everyone was blown away by both videos and I would not be exaggerating in saying that I think every single guest at the wedding spoke to us in one way or another (phone calls, facebook, texts, etc) expressing their love for the videos. The quality of the films is incomparable and the ability of Andrew and Emily to capture the “feel” of the day and put it together in such a beautiful compilation of clips is absolutely amazing.

Originally, we had not set aside money in our budget for a film, but once we saw what these two are capable of we made adjustments where we could and have absolutely no regrets. Our film (and our experience with Honey & Dear) was worth every penny and now looking back at everything that came together to make our day special, the film (and our photos) are our only vivid and tangible memories of a day that means so much to us.

Andrew and Emily – we would like to thank you for helping us give our guests a wedding to remember (so we’ve heard, lol), thank you for sharing your talents and gifts with us, and thank you so very much for giving us a lasting memory of the joy of our day to share with our family and friends in the future.

Melissa & Jonathan Varella were married this past weekend. We made this Love Story Engagement Film for them and it was debuted at their reception. They actually used this video to introduce themselves at the reception. Their story is incredible and if you don’t cry when you watch this, well- you’ll probably cry so don’t worry about it!

For more information about having your own Love Story – contact us by clicking here!

Check out this video we made of Melissa & Jonathan’s son…

We love what we do. It’s as simple as that. We get to know people and spend the most important day of their lives with them. One of the things that makes Honey & Dear unique is our desire to turn every one of our ‘clients’ into friends. That way – at the day of the wedding – we’re not ‘the videographers’ that the couple has hired – we’re Andrew & Emily and we’re going to make an awesome wedding film that day for our friends.

Today’s wedding was the perfect example of filming a friend’s wedding. Over the past year, we’ve had the opportunity to really get to know A.J. and Greg. A.J. is a RMT turned Med student who works at Sunnybrook Hospital. Greg works for the coolest shoe company I know – helping the Crocs brand continue to grow! Last night at their wedding, we prepared a Same Day Edit of their big day to show to their guests at their reception. If you don’t know what a Same Day Edit is – well – watch this.

Now picture watching it on your wedding day at your reception along with all of your guests. The experience is unmatched and people will be talking about it for months and years to come.

Their wedding was at the gorgeous Estates of Sunnybrook – a stunning Toronto wedding venue to get married. Spending the day with us as well were Danielle & Sarah from Twenty Two Studios .

To kick off the evening, we showed their Love Story Engagement Film which you can see right here –

We love spending time with our couples before the wedding and preparing these Engagement films. The guests at AJ & Greg’s wedding really loved hearing the story of how they met (again) and fell in love!

After showing the Love Story, we raced back to our ‘same day edit room’ and headed towards the finish line to complete their Same Day Edit.

The music in this Same Day Edit is called ‘Sweet Disposition’ by the band ‘The Temper Trap’. You can buy their music by clicking here –

We had a great time filming Christina & Greg’s wedding at the beautiful Cranberry Resort in Collingwood, Ontario. We filmed and edited this Same Day Edit and showed it at their reception. There were a lot of cool things happening throughout their wedding day and their First Dance will go down in our memories as one of the best! Great job guys!

We loved working with our good friend Luca Ragogna. We tagged along for their photoshoot atop Blue Mountain. Also, a massive thanks to the entire staff at the Cranberry lead by our new friend Maryellen Burgess for all their kindness and hospitality!

Whitney - Andrew & Emily….Amazing…. You both do such wonderful work. It’s an honour to know you.

Where do I start?! Time flies so quickly on your wedding day, I can attest to that, and its hard to remember everything that happens because you’re engaged with everyone the entire time. Our day was memorable for a couple of reasons, but the surprise same-day edit video you created for us and put on the wall of the church was perhaps the most memorable moment of all (besides kissing my lovely bride!) The pictures speak for themselves: world class cinematography. Andrew and Emily, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you for all that you did for us.

We had an amazing time tonight at the Argonaut Rowing Club in Downtown, Toronto. August 21st is Andrew’s birthday and it’s also the date that Nicholas & Virginia decided to get married. What a better way to spend a birthday than hanging out with new friends on one of the most important days of their lives!

This was a beautiful wedding filled with some really great cultures and traditions. More than that, it was a really great day for everyone. We’ve said before that we don’t do videography. There are reasons why we don’t like being called videographers – and we can get into that another time – but it always makes us feel great when people identify that what they are seeing us do is not videography.  What we’re doing is something different – it’s wedding cinematographer.  We are wedding cinematographers. We like the term ‘Wedding Filmmakers’ and that is exactly what Nicholas called us today- without us even mentioning it. That was one of Andrew’ favourite birthday presents ever, Nicholas!

Here is the same day edit wedding film we made for Nicholas & Virginia. Same Day Edits are an amazing experience for everyone – they really capture the details of the day and the unique experience had by each couple throughout their wedding. We prepare all of the footage throughout the evening and have it ready to show that evening at your reception. Take a look…

We had a great time working with the photographer known simply as ‘Roland’. He really knew how to get people smiling.
Andrew Sorlie of Honey & Dear is a wedding cinematographer in the Toronto, Ontario area
Watching the Same Day Edit

We have had the pleasure of working with DJ Davin Bujalski on a few occasions now. He is without a doubt our favourite DJ and we would recommend him to anyone getting married in the GTA. His style is unique – he will sometimes heckle the dance floor – which is packed within moments of his first song being played. Davin brings a cool confidence with him and we’ve never seen people having so much fun all at the same time – with all ages taking part.

Music – Stay With You – John Legend – Get Lifted

Thank you Nicholas & Virginia – We had an amazing day with you guys and we’re honoured to have been able to share it with you.

Claudia & John got married at Casa Loma in Toronto, Ontario on August 15, 2010. We created this Same Day Edit wedding film for them and displayed it at their reception! We love creating cinematic wedding films for couples. We hope you enjoy watching…

Every wedding we get the opportunity to film, we learn something new. Today’s wedding was no different. The traditions and ceremony were amazing!

We gave John one of our camera for the car ride between Claudia’s house and Casa Loma! We love what he came up with on the ride over!

Music – Fidelity – Regina Spektor

Just before the Same Day Edit premiered, we shared Claudia & John’s Love Story Engagement Film.

Big thanks to Dave & Charlotte – daveandcharlotte.com – for being sooo incredible to work with and truly an inspiration to us. Check out their photo same day slide show
