Honey & Dear » Toronto & Muskoka Wedding Cinematography - Same Day Edit Wedding Video - Liberty Village, Toronto, Ontario

Masthead header

We love what we do. It’s as simple as that. We get to know people and spend the most important day of their lives with them. One of the things that makes Honey & Dear unique is our desire to turn every one of our ‘clients’ into friends. That way – at the day of the wedding – we’re not ‘the videographers’ that the couple has hired – we’re Andrew & Emily and we’re going to make an awesome wedding film that day for our friends.

Today’s wedding was the perfect example of filming a friend’s wedding. Over the past year, we’ve had the opportunity to really get to know A.J. and Greg. A.J. is a RMT turned Med student who works at Sunnybrook Hospital. Greg works for the coolest shoe company I know – helping the Crocs brand continue to grow! Last night at their wedding, we prepared a Same Day Edit of their big day to show to their guests at their reception. If you don’t know what a Same Day Edit is – well – watch this.

Now picture watching it on your wedding day at your reception along with all of your guests. The experience is unmatched and people will be talking about it for months and years to come.

Their wedding was at the gorgeous Estates of Sunnybrook – a stunning Toronto wedding venue to get married. Spending the day with us as well were Danielle & Sarah from Twenty Two Studios .

To kick off the evening, we showed their Love Story Engagement Film which you can see right here –

We love spending time with our couples before the wedding and preparing these Engagement films. The guests at AJ & Greg’s wedding really loved hearing the story of how they met (again) and fell in love!

After showing the Love Story, we raced back to our ‘same day edit room’ and headed towards the finish line to complete their Same Day Edit.

The music in this Same Day Edit is called ‘Sweet Disposition’ by the band ‘The Temper Trap’. You can buy their music by clicking here -

We had a great time filming Christina & Greg’s wedding at the beautiful Cranberry Resort in Collingwood, Ontario. We filmed and edited this Same Day Edit and showed it at their reception. There were a lot of cool things happening throughout their wedding day and their First Dance will go down in our memories as one of the best! Great job guys!

We loved working with our good friend Luca Ragogna. We tagged along for their photoshoot atop Blue Mountain. Also, a massive thanks to the entire staff at the Cranberry lead by our new friend Maryellen Burgess for all their kindness and hospitality!

  • Whitney - Andrew & Emily….Amazing…. You both do such wonderful work. It’s an honour to know you.

Where do I start?! Time flies so quickly on your wedding day, I can attest to that, and its hard to remember everything that happens because you’re engaged with everyone the entire time. Our day was memorable for a couple of reasons, but the surprise same-day edit video you created for us and put on the wall of the church was perhaps the most memorable moment of all (besides kissing my lovely bride!) The pictures speak for themselves: world class cinematography. Andrew and Emily, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you for all that you did for us.

We had an amazing time tonight at the Argonaut Rowing Club in Downtown, Toronto. August 21st is Andrew’s birthday and it’s also the date that Nicholas & Virginia decided to get married. What a better way to spend a birthday than hanging out with new friends on one of the most important days of their lives!

This was a beautiful wedding filled with some really great cultures and traditions. More than that, it was a really great day for everyone. We’ve said before that we don’t do videography. There are reasons why we don’t like being called videographers – and we can get into that another time – but it always makes us feel great when people identify that what they are seeing us do is not videography.  What we’re doing is something different – it’s wedding cinematographer.  We are wedding cinematographers. We like the term ‘Wedding Filmmakers’ and that is exactly what Nicholas called us today- without us even mentioning it. That was one of Andrew’ favourite birthday presents ever, Nicholas!

Here is the same day edit wedding film we made for Nicholas & Virginia. Same Day Edits are an amazing experience for everyone – they really capture the details of the day and the unique experience had by each couple throughout their wedding. We prepare all of the footage throughout the evening and have it ready to show that evening at your reception. Take a look…

We had a great time working with the photographer known simply as ‘Roland’. He really knew how to get people smiling.

Watching the Same Day Edit

We have had the pleasure of working with DJ Davin Bujalski on a few occasions now. He is without a doubt our favourite DJ and we would recommend him to anyone getting married in the GTA. His style is unique – he will sometimes heckle the dance floor – which is packed within moments of his first song being played. Davin brings a cool confidence with him and we’ve never seen people having so much fun all at the same time – with all ages taking part.

Thank you Nicholas & Virginia – We had an amazing day with you guys and we’re honoured to have been able to share it with you.

Claudia & John got married at Casa Loma in Toronto, Ontario on August 15, 2010. We created this Same Day Edit wedding film for them and displayed it at their reception! We love creating cinematic wedding films for couples. We hope you enjoy watching…

Every wedding we get the opportunity to film, we learn something new. Today’s wedding was no different. The traditions and ceremony were amazing!

We gave John one of our camera for the car ride between Claudia’s house and Casa Loma! We love what he came up with on the ride over!

Music – Fidelity – Regina Spektor

Just before the Same Day Edit premiered, we shared Claudia & John’s Love Story Engagement Film.

Big thanks to Dave & Charlotte – daveandcharlotte.com – for being sooo incredible to work with and truly an inspiration to us. Check out their photo same day slide show

  • Lori - Adorably beautiful. {Heart}

  • Fund Flowers - Amazing. What a beautiful composition of these memorable moments. They will be cherished for a lifetime.

Our good friend Nat Caron of Nat Caron Photography introduced us to Kim and Ian back in the spring time. Andrew instantly connected with Ian as he is almost a bigger Blue Jays fan than Andrew is- and if you know Andrew- that’s saying a lot! Andrew and Ian were constantly getting iPhone updates on J.P. Arencibia’s amazing debut in a Jays uniform.  Guys, there’s a wedding going on!!! In fact, there were so many baseball references in their speeches, that Andrew and Ian pondered the idea of heading to a Jays Game instead of letting Kim take her new husband on their honeymoon!!

We made this Same Day Edit for Kim and Ian.

Their wedding was so perfect. I was in tears for their speeches.  Both Kim and Ian come from families that are really close and you can tell.

We love showing same day edit wedding films at the reception. It always seems to put a nice ribbon on the day. One thing that we were really looking forward to was showing the Love Story which we made nearly 3 months ago, but had been keeping private in order to premier at their wedding. Well, you can finally watch it!

Thank you both so much for having us for the biggest day of your lives. We are glad to call you both friends, and we can’t wait to see a Jays game when you get back!

p.s. – we totally loved hearing the amazing ‘Skinny Phat’ band perform after the speeches at Kim and Ian’s wedding.  The two piece acoustic duo had the entire crowd dancing within seconds. Amazing job you guys.

For those of you who don’t know what a Same Day Edit is – you can see some examples here. Dave Biesse recently sent us some photos he snagged of us working away.

These photos were taken in 2010. We have since upgraded our cameras to Canon’s C100 Cinema Cameras. Back then, we worked with the Canon 5D Mark II DSLR for our wedding video production masterpieces. The cameras allow us to quickly swap cards on the fly and begin importing the footage directly onto our laptop which allows us to create Same Day Edit Wedding Films.

Andrew Editing a Same Day Edit in Toronto

We decided to try something that some of our wedding filmmaker friends have been doing for a while and that is time-lapse photography built right into your film. It’s amazing how a few photos stitched together can provide a really great effect for the viewer. This was the first time we ever attempted a true time-lapse and I’m so thankful for my good friend Mark Klassen who is the Time Lapse master – I called him with a quick question and thanks to him – the Time Lapse worked perfectly!

Andrew using the Glidecam to get some sweet shots

This couple had a ‘First Look’ which totally removes any stress and makes the rest of the day a blast! These photos were taken on the very top floor of the Royal York. We weren’t actually supposed to be up there because apparently some ‘Sensitive Meetings were taking place with very important people’. In my opinion – this was the best meeting happening on that floor!

Same Day Edit displayed to reception

Fast forward about 8 hours or so to the reception. While one of us stays with the action and films the speeches and dances, the other hides in a back room or in this case up on the balcony to create the Same Day Edit.

Tricia and Kris watching their Wedding Same Day Edit

We use every minute we possibly can throughout the day to prepare these – but once they are ready – we find a good place in the back to hide and watch with everyone else. The experience is incredible for everyone.

Another shot of Tricia and Kris watching their Same Day Edit

We had the rare opportunity to be able to surprise both Tricia and Kris with this Same Day Edit.

I love the look on Tricia’s face on this one. Our job is to make our couples and their guests happy. We love it when that happens. It really fuels us.

  • Jennifer Ballard - Awesome post guys! I love the same day edit too! Great work!

  • Melissa Downer - the magic that you and Emily exude together transcends directly into your work, which is absolutely exquisite!!!! Congratulations on your H&D launch. your work and talent are truly special gifts. It is inspiring to see and feel the passion and love that your work (if it can be called work)provides. Bravo! I truly hope that I can work with the two of you one day very very soon.

Kris & Tricia are the perfect couple. You can tell by the way they look at each other that they will have a life full of love.
We had the opportunity to make a surprise Same Day Edit for Kris & Tricia.  Tricia’s sister, Charlotte and her fiancee Dave are some of our closest friends – in fact – they’re pretty much family now as Charlotte put it last night:)

Charlotte arranged to keep the Same Day Edit a complete secret from her sister and Kris which made it that much more special.

Filmed Downtown Toronto at the Historic Berkeley Church (as well as at the Fairmont Royal York), this dream wedding was an incredible evening that we will remember.

A massive high-five to Toni who planned and coordinated the wedding.  It was her first ‘real wedding’ and to us – it seemed like she had been running weddings for 20 years!

You Rock Toni!

We hope you enjoy this Same Day Edit – we certainly enjoyed spending your day with you!

Brides – it’s a good idea to announce to your guests to stay in their seats when you come down the aisle.

Groom

This is the Groom.s view of his bride coming down the aisle. I actually feel bad for him.

In fact, this one might be out on a limb, but consider asking your guests to leave their Cameras at Home!

Dave Biesse of DaveandCharlotte.com one of Canada’s Top Wedding Photographers, says “tell your guest not to worry about photography or video.. if you’ve hired professionals, they’ve got it covered!”

Jon Thorpe of Union Photography adds: “I have had this happen a few times where guests enter the aisle. It’s a for sure way to ruin a good shot and the view that the groom has.”

Now, ask yourself – would you rather have that moment where you first see your groom’s eyes starring at you – or would like to be tagged on Facebook in 700 blurry, low resolution, red-eye filled snapshots from your friends who jumped into the aisle (or in front of your professional photographer or filmmakers) to get their shot.

Think about it…

-Andrew
